Journalist Daoud Kuttab Calls for Open Access to Al-Aqsa Mosque
Journalist Daoud Kuttab pointed out that the ongoing restrictions on worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City are unjustified and constitute a form of collective punishment, exploited amid political and security developments.
He noted that closures affect not only the mosque but also surrounding areas, including other religious sites, raising concerns over potential long-term changes to the status quo.
The “Murabitun” (worshippers who sleep inside the mosque) to maintain a constant presence, gather daily at the mosque gates) represent a peaceful form of grassroots pressure, emphasizing non-violent resistance and the demand for unrestricted access for worshippers.
Kuttab highlighted the crucial role of the international community in safeguarding religious freedoms, particularly during significant religious periods, calling for immediate action to ensure worshippers’ rights are respected.
He stressed that denying access even to small groups for prayer is unjustifiable and underscores the urgent need to protect religious practices in the Old City.
