Austria Coach: Jordan Delivered an Outstanding Performance and Made the Match Extremely Difficult

Austria head coach Ralf Rangnick praised Jordan's national team following Wednesday's World Cup clash, saying the Nashama produced an outstanding display and made life extremely difficult for his side. Speaking after the match, Rangnick said the results seen so far at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have highlighted how challenging it has become for European teams to secure victories against lower-ranked opponents.

"They made it very difficult for us, and I think we only really settled into the game during the second half," Rangnick said. He added: "In the end, I believe we deserved to win, but it was a very difficult match." Jordan began its historic first-ever FIFA World Cup campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Austria on Wednesday in Group J.

Austria took the lead through Romano Schmid in the 20th minute before Ali Olwan equalised for Jordan in the 50th minute, scoring the country's first-ever goal at a World Cup finals.

Yazan Al Arab then inadvertently put the ball into his own net in the 76th minute, before Marko Arnautovic sealed the victory with a penalty deep into stoppage time in the 102nd minute. Jordan will now look to bounce back in its remaining group-stage matches against Algeria and defending champions Argentina.
