European Union Reaffirms Support for Human Rights in Jordan and Worldwide
In an interview with Radio Al-Balad, Angela Martini, Deputy Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan, affirmed the EU’s commitment to defending human rights both domestically and internationally, noting that these rights are fundamental pillars of any society. Martini emphasized that addressing the challenges facing human rights today requires constant reminders of their importance and practicing them in daily life.
Martini added that the EU’s support for human rights extends from the political level to the community level, through backing initiatives and small projects that raise awareness across different age groups. She praised civil society initiatives in Jordan, highlighting the vital role of youth and local communities in promoting human rights values and making them a daily practice rather than just an annual observance.
Martini’s remarks came ahead of the launch of the "Human Rights Today and Every Day" event, organized by the Community Media Network in partnership with the Naya Community Network in Zarqa, with support from the European Union, coinciding with the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The event included a series of interactive and educational activities aimed at enhancing citizens’ knowledge of their rights and how to claim and defend them, in an effort to spread human rights values across Jordanian governorates, starting with Zarqa.
