Stefano Sannino, Director-General for the Middle East, North Africa and the Gulf at the European Commission, said that the European Union is working with its international partners on the possibility of holding a Gaza reconstruction conference to be hosted by Egypt.

Sannino explained that the recent meeting of the Palestine Donors Group in Brussels — which brought together more than 60 countries and international organizations — discussed the challenges related to launching the reconstruction process, foremost among them ensuring that the cycle of violence is not repeated.

He stressed that the success of reconstruction is directly tied to security arrangements and to ensuring that the Palestinian Authority assumes administrative and security responsibility for the Gaza Strip, within a unified framework that includes Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem, laying the groundwork for a future Palestinian state.

Sannino added that the European Union, alongside the United States and the international community, considers this approach the only path to achieving stability and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
