الرابط المختصر

The Jordanian Media Council has informed us that a decision was taken to retroactively rescind the license of our radio station’s news site AmmanNet.net
The decision made without giving us a chance to rectify it is based on a technicality which we disagree with. Our news site is listed as the online organ of our radio station Radio Al Balad that has been properly licenses since 2005. Jordanian law allows non-Jordanians to own radio stations while news sites must be owned 100% by Jordanian citizens. Radio al Balad is owned by 50% a Jordanian citizen.
In a strange move, the Media commission which has regularly licensed the AmmanNet news site recanted its own licensing without giving any reasons. Effort to meet the director of the Media Commission, Attorney Bashir Momani has been rejected without any explanation. Staff of the Media Commission told us that they have no complaint about the content or our work and there has been no written complaint sent to us nor were we given any reasonable time to make amendments.
We consider the decision of the media commission a violation of the right of the people of Jordan to receive independent and unfiltered news and we fear that we are being punished, without cause, for our independence and our adherence to accuracy.
AmmanNet and Radio al Balad have existed for decades and have been honored to be the first media outlets in the MENA region to receive the Journalism Trust Initiative recognition by a consortium led by Reporters without Borders.
We remain confident that Jordan is a liberal and open country with great potential and opportunity and we trust the independent judiciary in Jordan to support our work.
